Apple renews interest Liquidmetal

For many years we hear of Liquidmetal. This alloy with particularly interesting properties is exclusively used by Apple Computer today (read: Apple, Atakan Peker and LiquidMetal), but its use is limited to small accessory to access the SIM card tray of iPhone. If it therefore seems obvious that Apple's research on the subject go much further than a simple paper clip, we still await the release of a product using Liquidmetal and just learned that Apple has renewed its license with Liquidmetal Technologies for a period that will run until February 5, 2016.

The first Apple exclusive license for the use of Liquidmetal in electronic products dates back to 2010, and therefore it is more than five years that the Cupertino company is working on developing new products using this alloy. Apple does has a revolutionary use in his cartoons, or seek it also block the use of this alloy to its competitors? The suspense is over.

New beta for OS X, iOS and watchOS

It's already two weeks after their first official presentation and making them available to developers as beta versions that OS X 10.11 El Capitan, iOS watchOS 9 and 2 have been updated last night. The three updates, available only for registered developers, bringing a number of new features under the hood and a few graphical tweaks here and there to iOS 9. need this update is also an opportunity for us to discover a very interesting feature that was available since the first beta: the ability for the system to temporarily remove some applications in order to apply a software update on a device whose storage space is too low.

This innovation should make great service for users of iOS including iPhone or iPad has a full memory. Hopefully, however, this kind of new feature Apple does not encourage too long to continue the marketing of devices with 16 GB or even 8 GB of storage just ...

The iPad mini first generation was withdrawn from sale

The iPad mini first generation was quietly removed from l 'Apple Stores online catalog! The Apple Store does indeed offers more iPad Mini for the first few hours without Apple would bother to communicate on the subject. Without much doubt, the small Apple tablet, which had been marketed for the first time in November 2012, has been retired because of old age and outdated features. The range of Apple Tablet So now consists exclusively of devices with Retina displays, whose rates have not been changed:
f the iPad mini is no longer displayed on the Apple Store, it is however still possible to get it, including through the   Refurb Store where you can get a small discount: at the time of writing these lines, it is proposed from 226 € instead of 249 €. What sell the remaining stocks pending the final disappearance! Given the age of the tablet, but we advise you to prefer investing in an iPad mini 2, with a much higher power and Retina display

The Apple Watch 2 is 2016

As usual with Apple products, it takes the first or the second update for a truly successful product, the first version remains generally quite limited and confidential. Watch for Apple, it would seem that the usual pattern repeats itself: our colleagues from 9to5Mac  give us some first details on Apple's intentions for the Apple Watch 2, which will not start in 2015 but in 2016 . Surprisingly, Apple would rather satisfied with the autonomy of its first shows connected
nd if you forget to recharge one night

The first use of studies suggest indeed that most users still have 30% to 40% of battery when they go to bed. Apple has not yet the capacity to promise several days of autonomy at once, daily recharging should remain the norm and engineers of Cupertino would prefer to focus on adding new features. The Apple Watch 2 should have a FaceTime camera, and receive wireless chip more autonomous that will happen just over the iPhone today. The arrival of new sensors is also a proposed runway, but our colleagues do not have reliable information at this time. Finally, Apple would consider reviewing its pricing range to propose models between classic Apple Watch stainless steel (€ 649 to € 1,249) and Apple Watch Gold Edition (€ 11,000 to € 18,000). However, it is still early, and although the sources of our colleagues are generally very reliable, keep in mind that Apple's strategy still has time to evolve. See you in about a year!

Our first iPhone iOS 9 of impressions

This week Apple introduced iOS first 9, a first beta version was made available to developers in stride. We immediately installed the first version of the future mobile system on an iPhone 6, to give us an idea of what to expect. Verdict? We advise you (really) not to do so.

We will not review the new iOS 9, we have already discussed at its output (read:   Apple annonce iOS 9) and you can find images by viewing the inaugural conference of the WWDC (read:  Revivez la WWDC 2015 en vidéo). We will however give you our experience and feelings regarding this update, which we recall is a working version that is set to change to its effective output during the month of September.

New features

New iOS 9 are actually far fewer than the conference earlier this week left to think at first. If not we put aside the features reserved for the iPad and those that are still available in France, as public transport plans or new apple pay cards, there is not much to get in the tooth when an iPhone is used. Several new products announced during the WWDC are not yet in addition present in the beta, as some improvements to Siri, Spotlight, or applying News.

All that remains is very little. The radius of the news immediately visible, it was of course the new multi-tasking mode, which works in reverse of the previous system (the home screen located on the right of the screen) and is very confusing without bring any benefit (except perhaps to see an additional application in one glance ...). It also has research accessible again by sliding to the left of the home screen, which offers suggestions for sources of news that can not be selected, and recent contacts and applications (which we But do not open for months). It is currently impossible to access half of the functions presented during WWDC (like the weather widget), and the only novelty we really enjoyed unrestricted is the Notes application, which lets small drawings, insert lists, photos ... then remain the tiny alterations, such as adding a handy navigation bar in the Photos application, or adding a small button to return to the previous application when app redirects to another application (eg, Facebook Messenger from).

Stability and performance

Overall, this first beta is surprisingly quite stable and performance are at the rendezvous. As a working version that is not finalized and will be further improved before its release, this is very encouraging. A bit like OS X 10.11 El Capitan where most improvements are under the hood, Apple relies heavily on the reliability of its mobile system with this next update.

Note however that we were very unpleasantly surprised by the autonomy of our iPhone 6 following the installation of this first beta version of iOS 9. The phone, even unused, heated enormously and discharges completely in half a day. It is obvious that this defect will be corrected with the next update, and the problem will be gone before the public release of iOS before 9 and even the public beta phase scheduled during the month of July. Until this is resolved concern, therefore we do not recommend installing this heavily pre-9 version of iOS on your phone, unless developer and to have a real business need. 9 iOS bringing no great revolution on the iPhone, there is also little point in taking the time to perform this update and take the risk of encountering problems of incompatibility with the applications you use every day.

L’obsolescence programmée bientôt punie de peines d’emprisonnement en France ?

e bill on the energy transition adopted earlier this year by the French Senate provides an article on the fight against planned obsolescence. But how to impose these rules at the global level while Apple example does nothing in this direction?

Apple is not the only manufacturer of electronic products to apply certain practices related to planned obsolescence. Among the uses that could be charged to the brand, one of them concerning the statutes applied to its products.

Each year, a number of Apple product changes status. This evolution involves different rules when the after sales service. Some products each year and become "irreparable". The Apple Store are no longer able to accept them to refurbish them.

This list of obsolete products according to Apple will be applied from the month of June. And among the products that will be released in Apple Store, it will take on the good old iPhone 3G and 3GS. It is true of older models, released in 2008. The new list of Apple products that become unrepairable this year was presented by 9to5 Mac site.
Ecology will be the skin of planned obsolescence. In France, an amendment has been submitted to the vote of the National Assembly. The goal: to end these practices and punish manufacturers.

Steve Dowling, who replaced Katie Cotton at the head of the communications department, occupies now officially the seat of "Vice President of Communications" in Cupertino, as evidenced by the new  organigramme  to the Apple site.

Android patent war: Microsoft and Samsung put an end to the conflict

The two companies have finally signed an agreement to end the dispute between them on the use of Microsoft patents that Android is used, the OS of Samsung devices.
head once it's over. Samsung, the world leader in smartphones, and Microsoft announced this February 10, 2015 an agreement to end their dispute over patents.
"Samsung and Microsoft are pleased to announce that they have settled their litigation in US courts," said a short statement signed by Jaewan Chi, Executive Vice President of Samsung, and David Howard, vice president of Microsoft.

The groups did not provide any details about the content of the regulation, citing confidentiality. So we will perhaps never how Samsung has agreed to pay and for how long.
Microsoft had launched in August 2014 a lawsuit against Samsung accusing them of violating their contract for the use of their patents in 2011. The South Korean group had at the time agreed to pay royalties to Microsoft for use mobile patents latter of which uses the Android operating system from Google.
A billion dollars

Microsoft accused him of not having honored timely payment scheduled for autumn 2013, after the announcement of the purchase by the American Nokia Finnish mobile phone manufacturer. Samsung had finally paid but refused to pay compensation for its late payment and threatened by Microsoft of violating the contract again.
According to documents provided to court, the agreement allowed the Redmond company to reach a billion South Korean group in 2013.
Major technological groups have multiplied in recent years complaints against each other for patent infringement. The most prominent battle was obviously one indulged Samsung and Apple, before the courts of several countries. The two giants, however, reached an agreement in August 2014 to give up their battle outside the United States.

What is the mysterious project that Apple could shake Tesla?

While Tesla debauchery Apple employees by the dozens, the US giant prepare a secret project that could remonstrate with the manufacturer of electric cars. The information is important even if it is not very detailed.

War! Or at least the race for pole position. Apple and Tesla, the bad blood. While last week Bloomberg reported that Tesla had debauched nearly 150 employees of Apple, an anonymous employee of the Cupertino company has sent an email to Business Insider - certainly enough with the approval of his superiors - in which he chews not his words.
He states that the employees of Tesla are now "jump ship" to come to work at Apple and the latest project of his company "is too exciting" so that no one is interested. "I think this will change the landscape and that Tesla will get value for money," he continues.
What this somewhat cryptic sentence may well mean or imply? It's very hard to say. It seems very unlikely that Apple launches in the automotive industry with iCar, although Steve Jobs dreamed more than once, who was a fan of BMW design.
Last week, in addition to hiring the war, another amazing news concerned Apple. Tim Cook company would use cars equipped with sensors, much like the car for Google StreetView update. If it is logical that Apple is working to provide a similar function in Maps, some went on to say that the Apple Cars could be autonomous cars beginnings stamped Apple ...
Another computation, the secret project could be improved supply CarPlay, with a strengthened role of the iPhone in the control of the cars. Last week, Apple was assigned a patent describing how to unlock a car from an iPhone or Watch. A start-up also showed a concept that would allow partial control of a Tesla Watch from Apple ...

As fun and useful as this feature is that enough to remonstrate with Tesla? Not sure ... One thing is certain, the buzz is only beginning. Unless all this is a clever advertising campaign ...

Apple catches up with iPhone 6 demand, US online store lists all models 'in stock'

Consumers in the United States will no longer face a backlog when purchasing an iPhone 6 or 6 Plus from Apple's online store, as supplies of the popular smartphones appear to have reached parity with demand nearly four months after their release.

All but one configuration are now listed as "in stock," and spot checks at Apple retail outlets in the southern U.S. show most models available for immediate in-store pickup. The lone holdout — the sim-free iPhone 6 Plus — comes with a lead time of just one day.

The iPhone 6 series has proven to be Apple's most popular iPhone lineup ever, with at least one analysissuggesting that Apple may have sold as many as 69 million of the devices over the holidays. As a result, Apple has struggled to keep up with demand.

Shipping times slipped to as long as 4 weeks for the larger iPhone 6 Plus just one day after pre-orders went live last September, while the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 say waits of 7 to 10 days. Those queues grew shorter in December, though the never dropped below one day.

Supply also appears to be improving in Europe, though Apple's hottest market — China — remains underserved. The company still requires buyers to pre-register online in order to reserve a device for purchase, and recent on-site checks at Apple retail outlets in Hong Kong showed dozens of customers lined up to purchase a new handset throughout the day.

Our test Mac mini 2014

Apple: "The end of the golden age"...

&nbsp ;Apple products * are not so differentiating, says Benedict Flamingo, director Fourpoints Investment Managers, for whom the Apple brand is under threat of commoditization.
The most popular TV series often reach their peak audience in the sixth season, few exceed eight seasons. The iPhone is in the sixth and the buzz is at its maximum. However, with hindsight, many questions arise.

First round, the smartphone market is becoming commonplace quickly. By dint of copying, devices and user interfaces have come to resemble: it is no longer a differentiator. As for the evolution towards ever larger screens, it very likely to stop there unless the size of the pockets will undergo a major genetic mutation.

This lack of differentiation is reflected in the figures for market share. Those of the iPhone declined since 2012 from 25% to 12% while Android reached 85%. The average price of a smartphone down too: it is $ 314 in 2014 and even less than $ 250 in emerging markets. At 657 dollars, the iPhone 6 is already twice as expensive.

UNFINISHED APPLICATIONS

This price difference is it still justifiable, while the portfolio of applications is now provided in Android, a critical element as the value of a smartphone is defined by the wealth of applications? Worse, the "apps" are either Apple launched too fast or unfinished (Maps, iCloud) or substitutability (iTunes leaving room for subscription music streaming).

This is where Apple Watch intervenes. It only works with the iPhone and strengthens the Apple ecosystem. This is also the rub. Beyond the battery problem that requires reloading his watch every day, the touch interface of the smartphone proved awkward on a watch.

Apple has had to add two buttons to zoom, select an application ... A peak when one remembers that the stroke of genius of the iPhone was ... there was only one button. And if the ideal interface for such a watch was the voice? Only Siri is not yet accurate enough. The "killer application" that will make a purchase remains obvious to find.

That leaves Apple Pay, Apple's mobile payment system, another tool to strengthen its ecosystem. A bet that will take time to reveal itself as only a 6 iPhone owners can use and only a few percent of payment terminals are compatible, in the United States alone.

Eventually as the years go by, Apple is a business like any other. So, Apple, how many seasons?

APPLE - New iPad: all that will change on October 16

TABLET - For the keynote of October, Apple is expected to introduce the new generation of its iPad. MetroNews reviewed the latest of these tablets.  After the smartphone, the tablet. After the iPhone, the iPad. About a month after introducing the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus (remember, it was on September 9), Apple should take in the month a new keynote. The date of Thursday, October 16 has been advanced but not yet official. Anyway, it should be less impressive than the last. Apple has also provided a keynote in a less broad place: Town Hall Auditorium in Cupertino (California). Meanwhile, here's what should change in the new iPad:

► What name?
6 iPad or iPad 2 Air? No one knows yet for now the final name of the new iPad. Whatever it is, one thing is certain: it will be for Apple to the sixth generation of the iPad and the third for the iPad mini.

► A new chip
Like every year, after the integration of a new processor in the smartphone, it is added to the latest generation iPad. The house A8 processor, integrated into the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, should be announced as the new nerve center of the new Apple tablet. Unless this is a model boosted, called A8X, which would be installed on a brand new version Large, iPad Pro (see below "Two sizes, two screens?").

► The Touch ID
Type the code is so old generation ... Like the iPhone 5s and the last two smartphones Cupertino, it will now show their credentials to unlock the machine. The new tablets are expected to be in effect with the Touch ID button that identifies the footprints of his or its owners (up 5 fingers).

► A screen with anti-glare filter?
Nothing certain but here it was mentioned the possibility of adding an antiglare screen on the tablet. A very good idea that would use the iPad even in bright conditions. Moreover, it will be a real comfort to watch videos and movies.

► New Color
To comply with the trio of the iPhone, the iPad should be submitted either in two but three colors. Gold entered. We must therefore rely this year on the sidereal gray version (with black face), silver (with white face) and, for the first time, gold (with white face).

► Two sizes, two screens?
And if Apple offered two models of its iPad Air? In addition to the 9.7-inch version (and the iPad mini with a screen of 7.9 inches) for the Apple brand could launch a new model bigger. This would measure 12.9 inch (32.8 cm) from one edge to the other and would be called "iPad Pro" or "6 iPad Plus". In addition, this new model would be available in two screen resolutions: 2K and 4K (that is to say four times HD resolution). However, there is nothing to confirm this rumor.

► From WiFi boosted
As with the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, we hope that Apple will have thought about giving a boost to the WiFi iPad, thanks to the 802.11ac standard.

► No new Retina iPad mini?
At least not right away. From a strategic point of view, this is understandable. Due to the size close between an iPhone 6 Plus (5.5 inches) and a retina iPad mini (7.9 inches), Apple could decide to delay the release of the new model of this device early next year (March 2015?). So as not to overshadow his phablette.
